Question: I’m bothered by the sign in the girls bathroom that says, “Happy girls are the prettiest.”   Aren’t all girls pretty?

YES, all girls are pretty in their own way.  Don’t let that sign affect your self esteem. This sign may be misleading because some girls might be dealing with something that keeps them from feeling happy.  Some girls may be battling with depression or having rough time in their lives.  Maybe, the first thought they will have when they see that quote is, “Am I not pretty?” First of all,  just because you may not be happy all day, every day, doesn’t mean you aren’t pretty on the inside or out.  Also, is being pretty really so important?  I would say that being happy is better than being pretty any day.

Here is some good advice on ways to be happy:

Do whatever you need to do to stay happy, it could even be watching  Netflix.

Don’t let what other people say get to you, you are perfect.

Just always stay positive and keep looking for reasons to be happy.

Question: “How can I make more friends?”

This is a great question. A lot of students have trouble making friends. Here are some tips that can help you. You can start by being yourself. If you pretend to be someone else, you can’t truly make friends. One other way to make friends is to try to find some people that can make you become a better person. I wouldn’t associate myself with people who are just going to be negative factors in your life. When you find people you want to be friends with, ask them if you can be in their group for a project or sit with them at lunch. If you start talking to them, try and find some common interests to talk about and sooner or later you may become friends. Finally, always keep a smile on your face, and have a great attitude. People love to spend time with positive people.
