When most people look back at middle school, they think on awkward moments and angst. However, our Warner students think of their everyday, dramatic lives. When interviewing seventh and eighth graders in our Warner hallways, we realized there was a common problem of drama and the status of their grades. A few of our specific students touched on how balancing their homework, sleep, extracurricular activities, and social lives doesn’t always add up to the results they seek.

One problem an anonymous student spoke about was the issue of bullying. This student was bullied about being overweight. This individual’s peers used the term fat, elephant, and other unkind names. The student grew up struggling with weight issues and having peers make horrendously insulting comments. Given that this was something that  is a constant struggle for this student, the bullying made life very difficult.

Ultimately, this student did lose a significant amount of weight and ended up feeling more comfortable with body image. However, the struggle to maintain the new weight is a constant pressure, with this student always worried that the weight and then the bullying will return.  No one should ever feel like they need to change themselves because of what society thinks is an acceptable body.
